Support these Indigenous Ranchers & Businesses

Arizona is home to over 280,000 Native Americans, the third-highest concentration of Indigenous people in the United States, and has the most tribal land of any state in the nation.  Arizona’s Indigenous community also includes a rich history of ranchers, artisans, and food makers. Click here to learn more about Indigenous growers and farmers in the state, too.

We’ve recently connected with up and coming Native producers who are incorporating traditionally inspired foods and returning to practices passed down from their families. Support these local businesses as they share their cultural food heritage and contributions.

Val's Frybread

Val’s Frybread is a self-made company based in the Phoenix area, often making pop-up appearances across the Valley in her food truck and selling her product and other various Navajo dishes. She creates pre-made, packaged frybread mix utilizing her Navajo family recipe that was passed down from Val's grandmother. While the origin of frybread is one of oppression and tragedy, Val’s mission is not to lose sight of the events that led to the creation of frybread - and to remind people of how it came to be. Val's frybread is more than a snack; it is a taste of their ancestors' perseverance, grit, and determination. Order online here and check out where Val’s Frybread will be appearing next by following her Instagram.

Native Ground Coffee

This coffee producer is owned and operated by the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian community. Native Ground Coffee brings O'odham history and culture to the mainstream coffee world while keeping the traditions of their cultural ways alive by providing coffee grown on their lands. This year, the producer has partnered with National Indigenous Womens Resource Center (NIWRC) to raise awareness of the ongoing injustice of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, which is the culmination of a spectrum of violence and neglect perpetrated disproportionately against Indigenous women. Each purchase of their Coffee For A Cause product will help stop the violence that has plagued Native women for decades. Shop their coffee, tea, and apparel here.

Litson Ranch

This fourth generation ranch has prospered despite the challenges of accessing grazing lands in Trust Status and continues to raise cattle and offers all-natural grass fed beef. Blue Naadą́ą́' Sweets

Owned and operated by Erickson Billy of the Navajo tribe, Blue Naadą́ą́' Sweets incorporates Native blue corn and other ancestral ingredients into his pastries and sweet treats offering. The company namesake brings forth Erickson’s love of his heritage and people: Naadą́ą́' translates to “Corn” in the Diné Language, and corn is a meaningful element to the Diné People. It’s BLUE, it’s Naadą́ą́' and it’s sweet!  Follow them on Instragram or Facebook.
